Assistant Press Secretary Carl Woog provided the following readout:
Following the U.S. Strategic Command change of command ceremony at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb., Secretary Hagel met with junior officers responsible for carrying out the nuclear enterprise mission.
Secretary Hagel values meeting with junior military personnel to hear directly about the challenges facing the future of the force. The officers discussed with Secretary Hagel many of the unique requirements and standards they meet in managing personnel and equipment involved with their nuclear mission. Secretary Hagel conveyed that Strategic Command is responsible for the military's most sensitive and important missions and the nation is counting on all personnel, at all levels, to maintain the highest standards of conduct in performing these duties.
Secretary Hagel noted that the United States of America places a great deal of trust and confidence in junior officers to ensure our nuclear forces remain fully capable and ready at all times. He said he looks forward to seeing them rise through the ranks to become future leaders of the joint force.
The officers represented all three legs of the nuclear triad and several Strategic Command facilities including Barksdale Air Force Base, Minot Air Force Base, Whiteman Air Force Base, Vance Air Force Base, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Warren Air Force Base, and a number of ballistic missile submarines.
