GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that he has approved the appointment of Gen. Howell M. Estes III, U.S. Air Force, on the retired list in the grade of general effective Oct. 1, 1998.
Estes is currently serving as commander in chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command; commander in chief, United States Space Command; and commander, Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Co.
Estes was born Dec. 16, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas.
