Department Announces New Vice Chairs of the Defense Business Board

The Department of Defense reaffirmed this week that Robert L. “Bobby” Stein will continue his service as the chair of the Defense Business Board (DBB) and announced the appointment of two new vice chairs of the DBB, Nancy Killefer and Dr. Cynthia Trudell.

The vice chairs were selected from the full roster of DBB members based on their outstanding qualifications to help Stein move the DBB forward.

“The reports and perspective provided by the Defense Business Board have been invaluable in improving the business operations of the department,” said Deputy Chief Management Officer David Tillotson III. “I am pleased that Mr. Stein will continue his outstanding service as chairman and that we can welcome two new Vice Chairs with impeccable business credentials and experience to the DBB.

Killefer and Trudell will support Stein's leadership as the DBB addresses some of the most critical challenges facing the department. Killefer, who specializes in market strategies and improving organizational effectiveness, was a senior partner of McKinsey & Company, Inc. Trudell, who specializes in human capital management, is the executive vice president, human resources and chief human resources officer of PepsiCo.

“Ms. Killefer and Dr. Trudell have a proven track record of sound judgment in leading large, complex private sector corporations and have a wealth of top-level, global business experience in the areas of executive management, corporate governance, finance, human resources, compensation, and economics,” said Tillotson.

The DBB was established in 2002 to provide the secretary of defense and other senior department leaders with independent advice on private sector best business practices for consideration and potential application to the department's operations.
