FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Rear Adm. Daniel J. Murphy Jr., U.S. Navy, for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as commander, SIXTH Fleet and commander, Naval Striking and Support Forces, Southern Europe in Gaeta, Italy. Murphy is currently serving as director, Surface Warfare, N86, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Murphy was born May 30, 1948, in Newport, R.I.
