Statement on Upcoming Secretary of Defense Travel

Today, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will depart Washington for a multi-day domestic trip to highlight the readiness and training of the U.S. Army Global Response Force and thank service members involved in current operations as well as meet with corporate leaders and local officials to discuss key initiatives.

On Thursday July 9, Secretary Carter will participate in a discussion at the 2015 Allen & Company Sun Valley, Idaho, Conference about the importance of a strong partnership between private sector innovators and government, continuing an effort he launched in April with his visit to Silicon Valley. The conference is closed press.

On Friday, July 10, Secretary Carter will spend the day with U.S. Army personnel at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, that are in training as part of the Global Response Force and supporting ongoing counter-ISIL operations. He will address soldiers at a troop event to take place at approximately 11 a.m. EDT that will be streamed live on defense.gov and open to local press. On Saturday, July 11, Secretary Carter will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, to deliver keynote remarks at the 80th Annual Conference of the National Association of Counties. He will speak about the strong foundation that local communities provide our men and women in uniform, both today and as we build the force of the future.
