GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Edwin P. Smith, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Smith is currently serving as the commanding general, U.S. Southern European Task Force, Italy.
Smith was born on Aug. 8, 1945, Allentown, Pa.
