This holiday season, some 112,800 soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines are deployed overseas around the world. In honor of that sacrifice, Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has made the first ever public service announcement (PSA) paying tribute to U.S. service members deployed overseas who will be separated from their families during the holidays.
"Today, in every corner of the globe, America's military men and women are defending the blessings of peace and freedom that we celebrate this holiday season. From the Persian Gulf to Bosnia, from Korea to flood-ravaged Central America, our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines are far from their homes and their families, and they're serving and sacrificing for the benefit of us all. In this season of peace, remember those who keep the peace," Cohen says during the 30-second videotaped PSA video clip.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs will make a satellite feed of the PSA available to all interested media outlets at no cost. Station notification will go out to about 600 television stations.
The PSA will be uplinked as many times as possible during a 15-minute period starting at 3 p.m. (EST) and ending 3:15 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Dec. 18. Interested parties will be able to find the downlink at SBS6, Transponder 2 (Ku-Band).
Those having technical questions or who are interested in coordinating a downlink may contact Brandon Thomas, QRS Media, (202) 543-5403.
