USAF THUNDERBIRDS 1999 AIR SHOW SCHEDULE
The Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, have announced their schedule for the 1999 show season.
Following pre-season training at Nellis AFB, Nev., the team will begin its season Mar. 20 at Tyndall AFB, Fla. The Thunderbirds will fly more than 70 shows at more than 40 locations before concluding the season with a return performance at Nellis Nov. 19.
Each year, America's "Ambassadors in Blue" travel around the United States and the world to perform precision aerial maneuvers and demonstrate the pride, professionalism and performance of the U.S. Air Force. The team flies specially configured F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft in a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The entire show, including ground and air routines, runs about an hour and fifteen minutes.
Demonstration sites are selected to support the objectives of the Department of Defense and the interests of the Armed Services with safety as the primary consideration. Performances greatly assist the recruiting and retention goals of the military services, enhance esprit de corps among unformed men and women, and demonstrate the professional skills and capabilities of the U.S. Armed Forces to the American public and U.S. allies.
