A combined U.S. and Australian military training exercise called Tandem Thrust 99 will be conducted on Guam and in the Mariana Islands chain from March 15 to Apr. 4 , 1999. Tandem Thrust 99 is a U.S. Pacific Command (USCINCPAC)- sponsored joint task force training exercise.
The exercise is routinely scheduled at biennial intervals to train the USCINCPAC staff and the staff of commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, as a designated Pacific Command joint task force headquarters,
In crisis action planning and execution for contingency response operations, units of the U.S. Navy, Marines, Air Force and Army assigned to the Pacific Command are planning to participate with navy and air force units from the Australian Defense Force in an exercise. Training will include naval, air and land operations on Guam and the Mariana Islands region. Additionally, Canadian naval and air forces will participate in Tandem Thrust 99 as maritime opposition forces.
