GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Raymond P. Ayres Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as the deputy chief of staff for plans, policies and operations, headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. Ayres is currently serving as the assistant chief of staff, C/J-5, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, United States Forces Korea.
