BRIG. GEN. BRUCE M. LAWLOR APPOINTED FIRST COMMANDING GENERAL FOR JOINT TASK FORCE-CIVIL SUPPORT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has appointed Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Bruce M. Lawlor as the first commanding general of Joint Task Force - Civil Support (JTF-CS), located in Norfolk, Va.
JTF-CS is a newly-established standing joint task force assigned to U.S. Joint Forces Command that provides command and control over DoD forces in support of a Lead Federal Agency, for weapons of mass destruction consequence management activities in the United States, its territories and possessions.
Lawlor will oversee the development of doctrine, training and exercise management, plans development and requirements development. The JTF-CS will ensure that DoD assets are prepared to respond to requests for support from a Lead Federal Agency, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The JTF-CS is part of DoD's overall effort in support of Presidential Decision Directive 62: Combating Terrorism.
Lawlor is currently serving as the deputy director for Military Support with the Department of the Army at the Pentagon. He will assume his new duties in late November. He previously served as an attorney in his civilian occupation.
