AWARDS PRESENTED TO THREE TEAMS AT KICK-OFF OF ACQUISITION & LOGISTICS REFORM WEEK 2000

Acquisition & Logistics Reform Week 2000 began with the presentation of the David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award to three teams which demonstrated superior accomplishments in the defense acquisition reform field while developing their program and/or project.

The awards, presented by Under Secretary of Defense Jacques S. Gansler, were given to the Army Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement Program team for lowering operating costs by integrating commercial practices into the process, the Marine Corps Weapons System MARK 46 Development Team for using interoperability to significantly reduce total ownership costs per unit, and the National Reconnaissance Office Relay Satellite Team for delivering a multiple satellite buy under cost and ahead of schedule. All teams were cited for demonstrated innovation and best acquisition practices in their programs and/or projects. Acquisition & Logistics Reform Week 2000 runs from week of May 22-26 and features workshops, exhibits, hardware displays and a variety of speakers. The opening ceremony featured Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Henry H. Shelton. Over 20 workshops ranging from transformation of defense logistics to the future workforce will be discussed over the week and will be used to further the Department's continuing efforts on acquisition reform.
