DOD'S 2000 MAINTENANCE SYMPOSIUM SET FOR CHARLESTON, S.C.
The Department of Defense 2000 Maintenance Symposium and Exhibition will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 2, at the North Charleston Convention Center, Charleston, S.C. The theme for this fourth annual event is "Integrating Aging and New Systems Maintenance." It will focus on DoD weapon systems and equipment maintenance.
During the symposium, the full range of DoD's maintenance operations will be represented, including depots, operating commands and units, and research and development activities, along with their commercial industry counterparts. Maintenance comprises the largest of DoD's logistics work forces, with more than 500,000 personnel and annual appropriations of about $40 billion.
A major highlight of the symposium is the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Awards banquet set for Wednesday, Nov. 1st, where outstanding maintenance units will be honored.
The DoD Maintenance Symposium and Exhibition is sponsored by the deputy under secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness in conjunction with the National Defense Industrial Association. The entire event is open for press coverage.
