Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Army Lt. Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy chief of staff for programs, United States Army, Washington, D.C. Byrnes is currently serving as assistant vice chief of staff, United States Army, Washington, D.C.

Army National Guard Col. Kerry G. Denson has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Denson is currently serving as deputy adjutant general, Wisconsin Army National Guard, Madison, Wis.
Army National Guard Col. William W. Goodwin has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Goodwin is currently serving as chief of staff, Texas State Area Command, Austin, Texas.
