FLAG AND GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Navy Vice Adm. Edmund P. Giambastiani, Jr., has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C. Giambastiani is currently serving as deputy chief of naval operations for resources, warfare requirements and assessments, N8, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

Army Lt. Gen. John A. Van Alstyne has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy assistant secretary of defense (military personnel policy), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Washington, D.C. Van Alstyne is currently serving as deputy commanding general for initial entry training, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.

BRIGADIER GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Army Col. Byron S. Bagby has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Bagby is currently serving as the assistant deputy director for politico-military affairs (Asia/Pacific), J-5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Leo A. Brooks, Jr., has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Brooks is currently serving as the commander, 1st Brigade, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Col. Sean J. Byrne has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Byrne is currently serving as the executive officer to the deputy chief of staff for personnel, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Charles A. Cartwright has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Cartwright is currently serving as the project manager, Crusader, Program Executive Office, Ground Combat and Support Systems, Picatinny, N.J.

Army Col. Philip D. Coker has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Coker is currently serving as the deputy director, Army Quadrennial Defense Review Office, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Programs, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Thomas R. Csrnko has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Csrnko is currently serving as the deputy commander/assistant commandant, John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Col. Robert L. Davis has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Davis is currently serving as the chief of staff, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. John DeFreitas III has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. DeFreitas is currently serving as the deputy chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Army Col. Robert E. Durbin has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Durbin is currently serving as the executive assistant to the commander-in-chief, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command, and commanding general, U.S. Forces Korea.

Army Col. Gina S. Farrisee has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Farrisee is currently serving as the military assistant to the assistant secretary of defense (force management policy), Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. David A. Fastabend has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Fastabend is currently serving as the executive officer to the vice chief of staff, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Richard P. Formica has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Formica is currently serving as the assistant deputy director for politico-military affairs (Europe), J-5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Kathleen M. Gainey has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Gainey is currently serving as the chief, Joint Operations Division, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Army Col. Daniel A. Hahn has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Hahn is currently serving as the executive officer to the commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.

Army Col. Frank G. Helmick has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Helmick is currently serving as the chief, Operations and Intelligence Division, J-34, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Rhett A. Hernandez has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Hernandez is currently serving as the operations division chief, J-39, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Mark P. Hertling has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Hertling is currently serving as the commander, Operations Group, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Calif.

Army Col. James T. Hirai has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Hirai is currently serving as the chief of staff, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

Army Col. Paul S. Izzo has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Izzo is currently serving as the project manager, Bradley Fighting Vehicle System, Ground Combat and Support Systems, Warren, Mich.

Army Col. James L. Kennon has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Kennon is currently serving as the chief of staff, U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee, Va.

Army Col. Mark T. Kimmitt has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Kimmitt is currently serving as the senior military assistant to the supreme allied commander, Europe, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe.

Army Col. Robert P. Lennox has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Lennox is currently serving as the director, Army Staff Transition Coordination Team, Office of the Chief of Staff, Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Douglas E. Lute has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Lute is currently serving as the executive assistant to the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Timothy P. McHale has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. McHale is currently serving as the executive officer to the director, J-4, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Richard W. Mills has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Mills is currently serving as the commander, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colo.

Army Col. Benjamin R. Mixon has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Mixon is currently serving as the chief, Training and Exercises Division, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Joint Warfighting Center, Suffolk, Va.

Army Col. James R. Moran has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Moran is currently serving as the commandant, Defense Acquisition University/ Defense Systems Management College, Fort Belvoir, Va.

Army Col. James R. Myles has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Myles is currently serving as the chief, Middle East Division, J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Larry C. Newman has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Newman is currently serving as the executive officer to the deputy chief of staff for logistics, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Carroll F. Pollett has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Pollett is currently serving as the deputy director for command, control, communications and computers assessment division, J-6, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Robert J. Reese has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Reese is currently serving as the executive officer to the commander-in-chief, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command, and commanding general, U.S. Forces Korea.

Army Col. Stephen V. Reeves has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Reeves is currently serving as the project manager, Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defense Systems, U.S. Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Army Col. Richard J. Rowe, Jr., has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Rowe is currently serving as the chief of staff, 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea.

Army Col. Kevin T. Ryan has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Ryan is currently serving as a student at the Defense Intelligence Agency, Joint Military Attach School, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Edward J. Sinclair has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Sinclair is currently serving as the deputy assistant chief of staff, C-5/J-5, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/U.S. Forces Korea.

Army Col. Eric F. Smith has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Smith is currently serving as the commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, La.

Army Col. Abraham J. Turner has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Turner is currently serving as the chief, House Legislative Liaison Division, Office of the Chief, Legislative Liaison, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Volney J. Warner has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Warner is currently serving as the special assistant to the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. John C. Woods has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Woods is currently serving as the chief of staff, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Army Col. Howard W. Yellen has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Yellen is currently serving as the executive officer to the commander-in-chief, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
