GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Earl B. Hailston for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific; commanding general, Fleet Marine Forces Pacific; and commander, Marine Corps Bases Pacific, Camp Smith, Hawaii. Hailston is currently serving as the commanding general, III Marine Expeditionary Force; commander, Marine Forces Japan; and commander, Marine Corps Bases Japan, Okinawa, Japan.
