Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Air Force Lt. Gen. Paul V. Hester has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, Air Force Special Operations Command. Hester is currently serving as commander, U.S. Forces Japan and commander, Fifth Air Force, Pacific Air Forces.
Air Force Maj. Gen. Thomas C. Waskow has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, U.S. Forces Japan and commander, Fifth Air Force, Pacific Air Forces. Waskow is currently serving as director, Air and Space Operations, Pacific Air Forces.
Air Force Maj. Gen. Lance L. Smith has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy commander in chief, United Nations Command Korea; deputy commander, U.S. Forces Korea; commander, Air Component Command, Republic of Korea and U.S. Combined Forces Command; and commander, Seventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces. Smith is currently serving as commander, Air Force Doctrine Center, Maxwell AFB, Ala.
