FLAG AND GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Navy Rear Adm. James C. Dawson, Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral with assignment as commander, Second Fleet and commander, Striking Fleet Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. Dawson previously served as chief of Legislative Affairs, Office of the Secretary of the Navy, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Navy Vice Adm. Walter F. Doran has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral with assignment as deputy chief of Naval Operations for Plans, Policy and Operations, N3/N5, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Doran is currently serving as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Navy Vice Adm. Timothy J. Keating has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral with assignment as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Central Command and commander, Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Keating is currently serving as deputy chief of Naval Operations for Plans, Policy, and Operations, N3/N5, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Navy Vice Adm. Michael G. Mullen has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral with assignment as deputy chief of Naval Operations for Resources, Requirements and Assessments, N8, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Mullen is currently serving as commander, Second Fleet and commander, Striking Fleet Atlantic, Norfolk, Va.

BRIGADIER GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Marine Corps Col. Kevin M. Sandkuhler for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Sandkuhler is currently serving as chief defense counsel, Staff Judge Advocate Division, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.
