SECRETARY RUMSFELD STATEMENT ON CONGRESSMAN SPENCE

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld today released the following statement:

"The nation has lost a patriot and a dedicated public servant. Floyd Spence served his nation with distinction as a Naval officer and as a member of Congress for more than 30 years. As a leader on the House Armed Services Committee, he cared deeply about our men and women in uniform and helped secure peace through his commitment to the strength of our armed forces."
