NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF PROGRAM ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced today that he has appointed Navy Rear Adm. Stanley R. Szemborski to serve as deputy director, Office of Program Analysis and Evaluation. Szemborski will report to the Director of Program Analysis and Evaluation Stephen A. Cambone. He leaves his post as deputy director for Resources, and Requirements, J-8, Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Szemborski commanded Submarine Squadron Four prior to his recent Pentagon assignment with the Navy and Joint Staffs where he has excelled in financial management, force structure and budget issues.

"The office of Program Analysis and Evaluation sits squarely between the planning side and the budgeting side of our defense programs." said Szemborski. "I look forward to helping implement a new, capabilities based approach to the program and budget process."

"Admiral Szemborski has the experience to help us evaluate programs in a strategic context and from a joint perspective," said Cambone. "He has made substantial contributions to the Department's transformation efforts. As deputy director of PA&E, he will be an enormous help in building the critical FY-04 program and budget."
