GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS AND FLAG ASSIGNMENT

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:

Army Maj. Gen. Richard A. Cody, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy chief of staff, G-3, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Cody previously served as the commanding general, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Maj. Gen. Bantz J. Craddock, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C. Craddock is currently serving as the commanding general, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Air Force Maj. Gen. George P. Taylor, Jr., for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as Surgeon General of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Bolling Air Force Base, D.C. Taylor is currently serving as special assistant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Bolling Air Force , D.C.

Army Maj. Gen. William E. Ward, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, Stabilization Force, Operation Joint Forge, Bosnia. Ward is currently serving as the vice-director for Operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

REAR ADMIRAL

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark announced today that Navy Rear Adm. Henry G. Ulrich III is being assigned as director, Surface Warfare Division, N76, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Ulrich is currently assigned as special assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations for Task Force Excel.

Secretary of Defense Donald R. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Navy Capt. James E. McPherson, Judge Advocate General's Corps, for appointment as Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Navy and appointment to the grade of rear admiral. McPherson is currently serving as commanding officer, Trial Service Office East, Norfolk, Va.
