GENERAL OFFICER AND FLAG OFFICER ASSIGNMENTS

Army Chief of Staff Eric K. Shinseki announced today the following assignments:

MAJOR GENERAL

Army Maj. Gen. George A. Higgins is being assigned as assistant chief of staff, C-3/J-3, United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea and Deputy Commanding General, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea. Higgins is currently serving as deputy commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Maj. Gen. Geoffrey D. Miller is being assigned as commander, Joint Task Force - Guantanamo, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Miller is currently serving as assistant chief of staff, C-3 and J-3, United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command, U.S. Forces Korea and deputy commanding general, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea.

REAR ADMIRAL LOWER HALF

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark announced today the following flag officer assignments:

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Robert J. Cox is currently serving as director, Total Force Programming, Manpower and Information Resource Management, N12, Chief of Naval Operations. Cox previously served as executive assistant, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfare Requirements and Programs, N7, Chief of Naval Operations.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Derwood C. Curtis is currently serving as commander, Naval Surface Group Two. Curtis previously served as executive assistant, Secretary of the Navy.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Peter H. Daly is currently serving as deputy director for Resources and Requirements, J-8, Joint Staff. Daly previously served as executive assistant, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Kenneth W. Deutsch is currently serving as director, Fleet and Allied Requirements Division, N60, Chief of Naval Operations. Deutsch previously served as chief, Communications and Computer Networks Division, J6T, Joint Staff.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) John S. Godlewski is being assigned as deputy chief of staff for C4I, Resources, Requirements, and Assessment, N6/N8, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Godlewski is currently serving as chief of staff, Second Fleet.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Mark D. Harnitchek, Supply Corps, is being assigned as commander, Naval Inventory Control Point Philadelphia/Mechanicsburg. Harnitchek is currently serving as deputy commander for Fleet Logistics Operations, Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Leendert R. Hering is currently serving as commander, Naval Surface Group, Pacific Northwest/commander, Navy Region Northwest. Hering previously served as commanding officer, Naval Station San Diego.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) William J. McCarthy is currently serving as deputy director for Operations, National Military Command Center, J3, NMCC-5, Joint Staff. McCarthy previously served as special assistant to the Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Michael H. Miller is being assigned as head, Aircraft Carrier Programs, N785, Chief of Naval Operations. Miller is currently serving as deputy director, White House Military Office.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Allen G. Myers is currently serving as deputy director for Requirements Assessment, N81D and director, Commander Liaison Division, N83, Chief of Naval Operations. Myers previously served as executive assistant, Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Marc L. Purcell is currently serving as assistant commander for Personnel Readiness and Community Support, PERS-6, Naval Personnel Command. Purcell previously served as chief of staff, Commander Naval, Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) Michael S. Roesner is being assigned as deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Fleet Supply and Ordnance, N4, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Roesner is currently serving as commander, Fleet Material Support Office.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (selectee) James W. Stevenson Jr. is being assigned as director, Current Operations and Politico-Military Affairs, N31 and N52, Chief of Naval Operations. Stevenson is currently serving as executive assistant, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and commander in chief, Allied Forces, Southern Europe.
