Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that the Pentagon will be the site for women-owned businesses to gather Wednesday, February 8, 1995 for their Women-Owned Business Market Place `95 Kick-Off. The one-day fair, open for media coverage, starts at 9:00 a.m. on the Pentagon's Concourse. It is targeted toward women-owned businesses that are interested in learning how to conduct business with the Department of Defense.
The purpose of the `95 Kick-Off is to set the stage and provide an incentive to ensure maximum participation within DoD toward achieving a government-wide five percent women-owned business procurement goal. That goal was outlined in the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act of 1994.
The conference, which is the first of its kind to be held at the Pentagon, is sponsored by the National Small Business Council, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes the interests of small business concerns. The `95 Kick-Off demonstrates top level DoD commitment to the growth of women-owned businesses. Several senior defense officials are scheduled to participate in the conference.
