The Department of Defense (DoD) today announced plans to award instrumentation and research grants totaling $4.2 million to 17 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). These grants will be made under the fiscal 2002 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program. The grants will enhance programs and capabilities at these HSIs in scientific disciplines critical to national security and DoD.
This announcement is the result of merit competition for infrastructure support funding conducted for the Office of Defense Research and Engineering by the Army Research Office. The 2002 HSIs program solicitation received 114 proposals in response to a broad agency announcement issued in August 2002. The Army Research Office plans to award seven equipment grants ranging from $57,000 to $240,000 and will have a 12-month performance period. Ten research grants will also be made ranging from $213,000 to $400,000 over a 36-month performance period.
