GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Walter L. Sharp for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as director for Strategic Plans and Policy, J-5, the Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Sharp is currently serving as vice director for Force Structure, Resources and Assessment, J-8, the Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
