IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 069-95
February 10, 1995

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE STATEMENT ON THE FY95 BUDGET SUPPLEMENTAL

Secretary of Defense William Perry has issued the following statement on Congressional action today on the Department of Defense's request for a supplemental appropriation in FY 1995:

"Our top priority is adequate funding to maintain the readiness of our forces. Therefore we welcome the quick action by the House Appropriations Committee on the FY 1995 Defense Supplemental.

"The $3.2 billion supplemental is $670 million more than we requested. To offset this increase the committee has adopted a recission package of defense and nondefense programs. We are concerned about the additions and the recissions, some of which would harm programs to strengthen the defense industrial base and to advance efforts to dismantle Russia's nuclear arsenal. We will work with the Congress to resolve these issues."
