GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Wallace C. Gregson, Jr., for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific; commanding general, Fleet Marine Force Pacific; and commander, Marine Corps Bases Pacific, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. Gregson is currently serving as the commanding general, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

MAJOR GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:

Army Brig. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Austin is currently serving as assistant division commander (maneuver), 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Ga.

Army Brig. Gen. Gary L. Border has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Border is currently serving as commander, Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, Defense Logistics Agency, Philadelphia, Pa.

Army Brig. Gen. William H. Brandenburg has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Brandenburg is currently serving as deputy commanding general for training and readiness, I Corps and Fort Lewis, Fort Lewis, Wash.

Army Brig. Gen. Randal R. Castro has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Castro is currently serving as assistant commandant, U.S. Army Engineer School, and deputy commanding general, Initial Entry Training, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Army Brig. Gen. James A. Coggin has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Coggin is currently serving as assistant division commander (support), 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea.

Army Brig. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Dempsey is currently serving as program manager, Saudi Arabian National Guard Modernization Program, Saudi Arabia.

Army Brig. Gen. Barbara G. Fast has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Fast is currently serving as director of intelligence, J-2, U.S. European Command, Germany.

Army Brig. Gen. Joseph F. Fil, Jr., has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Fil is currently serving as commanding general, National Training Center and Fort Irwin, Fort Irwin, Calif.

Army Brig. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Freakley is currently serving as assistant division commander (operations), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Brig. Gen. John D. Gardner has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Gardner is currently serving as deputy commanding general for transformation, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Lewis, Wash.

Army Brig. Gen. Brian I. Geehan has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Geehan is currently serving as commanding general, 1st Corps Support Command, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Brig. Gen. Gary L. Harrell has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Harrell is currently serving as commander, Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Army Brig. Gen. Steven R. Hawkins has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Hawkins is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Engineer Division, Great Lakes and Ohio River, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Army Brig. Gen. Janet E. A. Hicks has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Hicks is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon, Fort Gordon, Ga.

Army Brig. Gen. Kenneth W. Hunzeker has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Hunzeker is currently serving as vice director for force structure, resources and assessment, J-8, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Brig. Gen. James A. Kelley has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Kelley is currently serving as chief of staff, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.

Army Brig. Gen. Ricky Lynch has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Lynch is currently serving as chief of staff, KFOR (Main), Film City, Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.

Army Brig. Gen. Michael R. Mazzucchi has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Mazzucchi is currently serving as program executive officer, Command, Control, and Communications (Tactical), Fort Monmouth, N.J.

Army Brig. Gen. Dennis C. Moran has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Moran is currently serving as director, J-6, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Army Brig. Gen. James H. Pillsbury has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Pillsbury is currently serving as deputy chief of staff, G-4, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Army Brig. Gen. David C. Ralston has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Ralston is currently serving as deputy commanding general and assistant commandant, U.S. Army Field Artillery Center and School, Fort Sill, Okla.

Army Brig. Gen. Don T. Riley has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Riley is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Engineer Division, Mississippi Valley, Vicksburg, Miss.

Army Brig. Gen. James E. Simmons has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Simmons is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Safety Center, Fort Rucker, Ala.

Army Brig. Gen. Edgar E. Stanton III has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Stanton is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute, with duty as commanding general, 336th Finance Command, Combined Forces Land Component Command, Camp Doha, Kuwait.

Army Brig. Gen. Guy C. Swan III has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Swan is currently serving as chief, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C.

Army Brig. Gen. David P. Valcourt has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Valcourt is currently serving as director, Officer Personnel Management Directorate, U.S. Total Army Personnel Command, Alexandria, Va.

Army Brig. Gen. W. Montague Winfield has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Winfield is currently serving as assistant division commander (support), 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Army Brig. Gen. John A. Yingling has been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. Yingling is currently serving as commanding general, Joint Task Force 6, U.S. Northern Command, Fort Bliss, Texas.
