PERRY THANKS U.S. AND ITALIAN FORCES IN SOMALIA OPERATION
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry released this statement today following
the successful extraction of United Nations forces from Somalia.
"U.S. and Italian Marines completed the extraction of United Nations forces and
their equipment from Somalia late this afternoon. The operation went smoothly
and safely because of superb planning by the U.S., the coalition forces and the
U.N. The Marines were well-trained and ready for this complex mission.
"I want to thank the U.S. forces and their commanders for a job well done."
