DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE UNVEILS ELECTRONIC ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION BULLETINBOARD

Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Environmental Security Sherri W. Goodman unveiled today the Department of Defense's Electronic Environmental Restoration Bulletin Board at the National Contract Management Association's annual conference. The increasing participation of small business in the DoD's environmental restoration program at some 1,771 military installations nationwide is an on-going goal of the Department of Defense. One way for DoD to provide contract information quickly and easily to small business entrepreneurs is through the use of the Internet.

"1995 marks Earth Day's 25th Anniversary. Since 1970, all of us have raised our collective environmental conscience. Twenty-five years ago, the Department of Defense wasn't even aware of the many sites that resulted from military activities. We know now. But DoD alone can't do the job of environmental restoration without help from the business community. Business, both big and small, plays an integral role in this important mission," said Goodman in an Earth Day message.

The DoD Electronic Environmental Restoration Bulletin Board consolidates information about many environmental restoration opportunities from the Services in one location. Currently, private firms seeking DoD restoration opportunities must make separate inquiries with each military branch. The bulletin board offers "one stop shopping" and provides contracting opportunities based on long range estimates from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Navy and the Air Force. Other categories featured on the bulletin board include environmental and small business publications; upcoming environmental conferences; point of contact information for small business offices; and other Internet sites that feature information related to the DoD restoration effort.

The DoD Electronic Environmental Restoration Bulletin Board is a part of the Defense Environmental Network Information Exchange (DENIX). Users can access the bulletin through the World Wide Web. The address is http://www.dtic.mil/envirodod/
