General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Gen.(Retired) Peter J. Schoomaker for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as chief of staff, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Schoomaker retired from active duty on Dec. 1, 2000, as commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
