O'Connell Sworn in as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict

Thomas W. O’Connell was sworn in Friday at the Pentagon as the assistant secretary of defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC). O’Connell is responsible for overall supervision of special operations and low-intensity conflict activities for the Department of Defense including policy and resources. He is the civilian advisor to the secretary of defense for SO/LIC matters.

O’Connell recently served as a senior manager for Raytheon Company’s intelligence and information systems. His 27- year military career included a tour in Vietnam, exchange duty with the British Army, an assignment to the CIA, and repeated assignments with airborne and special operations units.
