Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:
Air Force Maj. Gen. Garry R. Trexler for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy commander, U.N. Command Korea; deputy commander, U.S. Forces Korea; commander, Air Component Command, Republic of Korea, U.S. Combined Forces Command; and commander, Seventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces, Osan Air Base, Korea. Trexler is currently serving as director of air and space operations, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
Air Force Maj. Gen. William Welser III for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, Eighteenth Air Force, Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Welser is currently serving as special assistant to the Commander, Headquarters U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
