The Army announced today the selection of Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems
Inc. and the H&R Company (Joint Venture of Hughes Aircraft Company and Raytheon
Company) as the winners of a competition to select contractors for
participation in the Corps Surface-to-Air Missile (CORPS SAM)/Medium Extended
Air Defense System (MEADS) International Teaming arrangements and the Project
Definition and Validation (PD-V) Phase. Contract awards are projected to occur
in January 1996, following the signing of the MEADS Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) between the United States, Germany, France and Italy.
The CORPS SAM/MEADS is a medium range air and missile defense system that will
be developed as a cooperative effort between those four governments. The
projected funding profile will be 50 percent U.S., 20 percent German, 20
percent French, and 10 percent Italian. The selected U.S. contractors will be
teamed with equally qualified European industrial teams to perform the PD-V
Phase of the MEADS program.
The CORPS SAM/MEADS program will be managed by the NATO MEADS Management
Agency (NAMEADSMA), an international program office chartered by NATO.
NAMEADSMA will be located in Huntsville, Ala.
