As part of a national drug-free America campaign, Secretary of Defense William
Perry has proclaimed October 23 through 27, 1995, as Department of Defense Red
Ribbon Week. In observation of this event, Perry will visit the Red Ribbon
Week display on the Pentagon Concourse, Wednesday, October 25, 1995, at 1:30
p.m.
For the eighth consecutive year, U.S. military installations around the world
will observe the event. All U.S. military personnel, civilian employees, and
their dependents have been encouraged by Perry to participate in the nationwide
campaign to increase drug abuse awareness, prevention, and education programs.
Red Ribbon Week is one component of the Department of Defense's comprehensive
drug demand reduction program.
Observance of Red Ribbon Week will include displays by the military services
and the National Guard on the Pentagon Concourse, with distribution of drug
awareness and prevention materials from Monday, October 23, through Friday,
October 27, 1995.
