Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Thomas F. Hall will ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ Market on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. EST. Hall will open NASDAQ on behalf of the Department of Defense.
Hall serves as the principal staff assistant to the secretary of defense on all matters involving the 1.2 million members of the seven Reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces. He is responsible for overall supervision of Reserve component affairs of the Department of Defense
Today the Reserve components make up 48 percent of the entire military. There are approximately 190,000 National Guard and Reserve members currently on active duty under the partial mobilization authority. Since President Bush’s declaration of partial mobilization on Sept. 14, 2001, about 350,000 Ready Reservists have answered the nation’s call to arms.
The NASDAQ has demonstrated its support to it’s employees who participate in the National Guard and Reserve by signing a “statement of support.”
The statement of support is a pledge from an organization to publicly support their Guard and Reserve employees.
