The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. 1^st Class Henry A. Bacon, 45, of Wagram, N.C., died Feb. 20 in Ad Dujayl, Iraq, when he was struck by a recovery vehicle while he was assisting a disabled vehicle. Bacon was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1^st Squadron, 10^th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 4^th Aviation Brigade, 4^th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

The incident is under investigation.
