U.S. - NORTH KOREA MEET ON POW/MIA ISSUES

James W. Wold, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for POW/MIA Affairs, will lead a U. S. delegation in meetings January 10-12, 1996 with North Korean officials in Honolulu.

The meetings are being held to discuss issues related only to the accounting of

U. S. servicemen lost during the Korean War. They are the result of a 1994 invitation through the United Nations Command to representatives of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK). While in Honolulu, the delegates will receive briefings on identification and recovery of remains by representatives of the Central Identification Laboratory (CILHI).

The U. S. and DPRK have maintained contact on remains issues over the past few years. This meeting in Hawaii is part of a continuing effort to seek the fullest possible accounting of missing Americans.
