The Joint Advanced Strike Technology (JAST) Program Office announced today the
award of two contracts for avionics concept definition and demonstration. The
contracts were awarded for critical/enabling technology maturation
demonstrations of Multifunction Integrated Radio Frequency Systems (MIRFS).
The contractual efforts are divided into three tasks: Concept Definition;
Multifunction Nose Aperture (MFA) Integration and Demonstration; and Limited
Flight Test Demonstration of MFA Modes.
The goal of the overall MIRFS project is to contribute a lighter weight, lower
life cycle cost radio frequency (RF) sensor suite meeting Navy, Air Force,
Marine Corps, and United Kingdom Royal Navy needs.
The contracts culminated the JAST program's fifth major contractual effort and
were awarded using a highly streamlined paperless contracting process. The
JAST program used a simplified solicitation vehicle in which proposals were
submitted on electronic media, evaluated electronically, and awarded using an
innovative electronic contracting officer support tool developed by the JAST
program.
The following JAST program contracts were awarded on Feb. 12, 1996:
Prime: Hughes Aircraft Company, Los Angeles, Calif.
Award: $54,618,018
Prime: Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Baltimore, Md.
Award: $48,163,861
