Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Odierno previously served as the commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Hood, Texas.
