The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Lance J. Koenig, 33, of Fargo, N.D., died Sept. 22 in Tikrit, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting a dismounted patrol. Koenig was assigned to the Army National Guard's 141st Engineer Battalion, Jamestown, N.D.
The incident is under investigation.
