Release No: 151-96
March 25, 1996

The Department of Defense today announced a partnership of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Air National Guard, Department of State, and other agencies to move excess automation and base support equipment to support the critical needs of the Rwanda War Crimes Tribunal. These supplies, totaling more than 60 tons, will be flown to Kigali, Rwanda aboard a C-5A Galaxy transport aircraft from the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard based at Stewart International Airport.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations Low Intensity Conflict Timothy Connolly noted this movement of supplies as part of a continuous effort by the U.S. to support the work of the Rwanda Tribunal. Connolly went on to say that this is the first time that assets from such a diverse number of agencies have been brought together in such an ambitious project to share expertise and reduce cost to all partners.

The trip, starting March 26, 1996 will last six days and cover more than 18,000 miles. In addition to the automation and base support equipment, tents and power generation equipment will be delivered to the World Food Organization.
