KENNETH H. BACON CONFIRMED ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS
The U.S. Senate yesterday confirmed the appointment of Kenneth H. Bacon to theposition of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.
Mr. Bacon has been serving as the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense forPublic Affairs since September, 1994.
On March 30, 1995, President William J.Clinton announced his intent to nominate the Pentagon's chief spokesperson tothe higher post of assistant secretary.
A native of Amherst, Mass., Mr. Bacon was born on November 21, 1944.
He earneda B.A. from Amherst College in 1966, and later earned an M.S. from ColumbiaJournalism School, and an M.B.A., from Columbia University Business School.
Heis currently a Trustee of Amherst College and of the Folger Shakespeare Libraryin Washington.
Prior to assuming his current post, he worked as a reporter andeditor in the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal for 25years.
He and wife Darcy have two daughters; Katharine and Sarah.
