Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Karl W. Eikenberry for appointment to therank of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, Combined Forces Command - Afghanistan, United States Central Command, Kabul, Afghanistan. Eikenberry is currently serving as the director, J-5, United States Pacific Command, Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii.
