GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that the President hasnominated Major General Carl E. Franklin, United States Air Force, forappointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as Commander,Ninth Air Force, Air Combat Command; and Commander, United States CentralCommand Air Forces, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
General Franklin iscurrently assigned as Commander, Joint Task Force Southwest Asia, Air CombatCommand, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
General Franklin was born December 18, 1938, in Sweetwater, Texas.
