General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, Multi-National Corps-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Chiarelli is currently serving as the commanding general, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
