Flag Officer Announcement

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen announced the following flag officer assignment:

Rear Adm. (lower half) Frank Thorp IV is being assigned as deputy assistant secretary of defense (joint communication), a newly created position in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) Washington, D.C. Thorp is currently serving as public affairs officer, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

In his position, Thorp will be responsible to oversee Department of Defense activities directed at shaping department-wide communications doctrine, organization, and training for the joint force.

Frank Thorp is an exceptional communication professional, said the Pentagons Chief Spokesman, Larry Di Rita. His wealth of operational and organizational expertise makes him the ideal officer to help shape the departments communications capabilities for the 21st century.
