GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that
the President has nominated Maj. Gen. William M. Steele, United
States Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general
and assignment as commanding general, United States Army Pacific,
Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Since March 1995, he has served as the
director for operations, J-3, United States Atlantic Command,
Norfolk, Va.
Steele was born on July 24, 1945, in Atlanta, Ga.
