Asian Pacific Heritage Poster

Asian Pacific Americans are an array of people with distinctly different cultural backgrounds that present a challenge in visualizing the complete group in a single design. Unlike many other APA posters that exclude certain cultures or include only the specific cultures widely known, I have come up with a design that represents everyone in the APA community, not directing to any one specific culture. What I came up with is a stylized tree that holds every single culture that defines APA. This design not only represents every APA culture, but also depicts UNITY IN FREEDOM, which is the theme for this year’s APA Heritage Month. ‘Unity’ is achieved by clustering each APA culture together on top of one brushstroke, and the tree itself represents ‘Freedom.’ While subjects such as the Statue of Liberty, a bird flying in the sky and a fish swimming in the ocean serve a better purpose of depicting ‘Freedom,’ the tree was chosen to achieve the theme in its entirety and to depict how APA is growing.
