American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON -- It's not fair to compare the services' basic training programs, because the services have different missions and different requirements for their members. But there are similarities. The services say basic training is the place civilians are inculcated into the military life. They also say there needs to be a "culminating event" for basic training.
