National Image, Inc., will announce May 22 that two
Army soldiers will receive the National Image Meritorious Service
Award for 2003 during a major awards banquet, the 15th annual "Salute
to the Hispanics in the Military."
Maj. Ayleen
A. Cunningham-Sherill, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Command's
9th Theater Support Command at Fort Belvoir, Va., and Sgt. 1st Class
Elena Moralez-Alvarez, of U.S. Army Material Command, will be honored
at the awards banquet in Los Angeles. The Meritorious Service Awards
will be presented to outstanding members of the Armed Forces for
their contributions to increased opportunities for Hispanic-Americans
and their local communities.
Maj. Cunningham-Sherrill
"distinguished herself as a dedicated leader and participant
in the movement by Hispanics to gain equal rights in America, and
the Greater Metropolitan Washington area," according to National
Image officials. Born in Lima, Peru, she "not only embraced
and exercised the use of equal rights for herself, but has facilitated
the acquisition of the rights by all through various mentoring groups
she leads, promoting ethnic diversity and multi-culturalism through
her work with numerous agencies."
